BELL 2016 MOTO 9 CARBON FLEX SYNDROME DIRT BIKE HELMET
Don’t let outward appearances fool you, the Bell Moto-9 Flex is a very new and cool design. Wanting to stay at the forefront of helmet safety, Bell has created a unique three layer interior that better manages low, mid and high speed impacts. Consisting of EPS (expanded polystyrene), EPP (expanded polypropylene) and EPO (expanded polyolefin), the materials not only improve safety but do so without adding weight and ironically helping ventilation by way of the more open layout. The outer shell and plush padding stay the same and there is nothing wrong with this; both are already dialed in. Factor in some sweet graphics and you’ve got a dirt bike helmet that is at the leading edge of style and safety.
The Flex interior described in Bell’s own words: “The progressive layering in the Moto-9 Flex uses a specific material at a particular density to manage the force of the impact. And as the impact becomes greater, higher density layers are engaged to manage energy. Additionally, a ‘slip zone’ within the impact liner allows for subtle movement between the inner layers and works to reduce rotational energy transfer from angular impacts.”
